EuropaColon pleased to announce new partnership with DG JRC Ispra Italy

Published on 13 April 2017 back to previous

The European Commission’s DG Joint Research Centre (JRC) has announced a new programme of work on colorectal cancer to be known as European Commission Initiative on Colorectal Cancer (ECICC) to be developed under the auspices of the Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) and with the scientific and technical coordination of the JRC.

This new initiative will follow in the footsteps of the European Commission Initiative on Breast Cancer (ECIBC).

ECICC covers the whole colorectal cancer pathway, from screening through to end of life care via a voluntary European Quality Assurance scheme for all pathway care processes. The scheme will be based on evidence provided by updated European Guidelines, as well that developed within ECICC, and embedded in the EU legal framework for accreditation. ECICC work will be delivered in close collaboration with EuropaColon as well as with other stakeholders and participant countries.

For the overall ECICC, the first action will be to nominate the ECICC National Contacts via the Healthcare Attachés.

The ECICC will systematically incorporate all useful work, documents and surveys already performed in order not to ”reinvent the wheel”, while ex-novo developing what is needed and still unavailable

In particular, with regard to screening, a working group has already been established within the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC) to investigate the potential to harmonize and improve Fecal Immunochemical Tests (FIT).

EuropaColon is delighted to be working with the JRC on this very important project!
